Matchsticks

they say we’re all
snowflakes
trying to sparkle
in our own unique way
when we’re really
just all the
same

weak, temporary

and it’s true that
from a distance
we all seem the same
like matchsticks

uniform, nondescript

some of us will merely
spark and sputter
but the rest of us
are going to
burn them
down
