Did you know the Alaska Equal Rights Act of 1945, the first anti-discrimination law in the United States, was signed into law today?
You do now! The law made it illegal to discriminate based on race, and came into being after Alaskan natives fought against segregation, which often forced them to abandon their culture. It was signed February 16th, 1945 and dismantled Jim Crow laws in Alaska.
Even though, the legislation had been, signed, to end discriminations, there’s, no way to, implement the laws, because, it’s still, up to the individuals, to either discriminate, or not, and the legislation being “signed”, is, only, a, “formality”…
