After celebrating Lammas yesterday, I’m looking forward to watching summer wind down and signs of autumn show by the end of the month. But until fall arrives and the temperatures drop at least 15 degrees, I’ll be huddled indoors, watching Shark Week and reading some of the intriguing new horror novels coming out this month.
August 3rd
Full Moon
August 4th
The Hollow Ones on shelves. “A horrific crime that defies explanation, a rookie FBI agent in uncharted territory, and an extraordinary hero for the ages: an investigation spirals out of control in this heart-pounding thriller.”
August 9th
Shark Week kicks off on Discovery Channel. My favorite episodes are always the Alien Shark shows, where researchers dive deep to discover new species.
August 11th
Stage Fright on shelves “Take a front seat in the baddest nightmare in town. Superstar Izzy Stark has the power to make your dreams — and nightmares — come true. He’s the master of disaster, the guru of gore, the doctor of doom, the duke of death and destruction — and you can’t escape this command performance.”
August 13th
The Perseids Meteor Shower peaks on the night of August 12 into the early morning of the 13th. On August 13 you can also spot Venus at greatest western elongation.
August 19th
Take advantage of the New Moon week (August 19) to photograph the Galactic Center of the Milky Way.
August 25th
Clown in a Cornfield on shelves. “In Adam Cesare’s terrifying young adult debut, Quinn Maybrook finds herself caught in a battle between old and new, tradition and progress—that just may cost her life.”
