I spotted this young five lined skink on a walk last Sunday. It’s the first one I’ve spotted since last fall, it’s nice to see little signs of life emerge ahead of spring. The bright blue and yellow coloring will fade to a uniform brown when it reaches adulthood.

So, my kids were studying animal adaptations this year in school. The blue on that skink makes me wonder what that could help a juvenile skink do–certainly not camouflage, right ? Maybe it’s more noticeable to its mommy skink–or birds of prey don’t like eating things that color (kind of like me and any Peep that’s not yellow!). Beautiful pic!

I’ve only ever seen the brown ones. That’s one long, blue tail.
