Fourth of July Rodeo

I don’t have big plans for the Fourth of July holiday this year, since it lands on a Wednesday. However, when the holiday lines up with a weekend, I usually use the holiday to try something new. One year I visited the Guilford Courthouse Military Park, and the year after attended my first rodeo.

It was definitely an interesting experience. There was an expected over the top display of patriotism, with a young teenage girl galloping around the arena with an oversized American flag while a recording of the Pledge of Allegiance played.

Watching the real cowboys ride the big bulls was fun, but I found the most interesting part was watching the little cowboy’s in training ride sheep. Decked out in full gear, they were expected to walk off with no assistance, no matter how hard of a bump they took.

  1. Your “Watch” recommendation reminded me that I have a recommendation for you. Have you seen Taboo? My husband and I are watching it at the moment and I thought it seemed like the kind of (dark/strange) show that might be up your alley!
